Is it safe to use ECPin in a 450°F / 230°C oven?

Yes! As long as the metal casing (electronics inside) of ECPin is inserted into meat of your choice then it is safe to withstand up to 212°F / 100°C. The exposed top part of ECPin is made of FDA and LFGB approved ceramic material. It can withstand at least 600°F / 315°C.

What is good about using super-capacitors over batteries?

For one, super-capacitors can be charged and discharged almost indefinitely, but batteries have a limited life. Batteries lose their capacity gradually over their lifetime. Super-capacitors don’t.

How come I had the probe fully charged the night before but the next day it won’t power up? Is the battery defective?

ECPin uses super-capacitor as power source. Unlike typical batteries, a ECPin’s super-capacitor standby power will be discharged in about 6 hours. Therefore it is recommended to charge ECPin before use.
